JoFY Bingo Wk.6

Welcome to Week 6 of Jofy Bingo - lots of great flower elements this week (which seems ironic as this week there aren't any christmas/snowy stamps but its the week we have snow here in the UK!)

I chose to create another spread in my art journal this week... (you can find my short process video at the bottom of this post!)

and LOOK!  I used YELLOW!!!  (and I recently bought a yellow top and a yellow handbag!!!)  I am FINALLY FULLY embracing yellow!! (it might be because I really want spring to arrive and bring warmer weather with it!)

aaanayhoo for this project I wanted to use paperpiecing - the flower head on JOFY35 really lends itself to that technique.
For the paper piecing I stamped the same images several times onto different scrapbook papers (I use 6x6 pads of paper for this as the designs are smaller/daintier..) and set about cutting them out.

I've laid the pieces out in the photos below so you can see how I put them together and get the most amount of flowers out of them.  The green/teal flower has its centre cut out and is reattached on top of the other layers - noone can see the hole that's created and it doesn't affect its structure/stability... the centre of the yellow layer could also be removed (and used elsewhere) as it is covered by the white layer..

Here are the finished pieced flower heads..  they are all the same but different - complementing each other..

I added shading around the layers to add a bit of depth, a touch of white gel pen (everything looks better with a bit of that doesn't it!) and some glitter glue to contrast with the matte grey background.

I made a quick video showing you how I created the spread... enjoy!

Right, I'm off outside to build a snowman....

ha ha ha

who am I kidding - I'm staying indoors where its nice and toasty warm!

Stay safe and warm everyone.

Art journal doodle flowers....

In my recent release of stamps and stencils for PaperArtsy (you can see them HERE and HERE) I designed a big loose flower and matching stencil:

I planned to use them on a journal page and one of my 'clean your paintbrush and use up the paint' 'patchwork' pages seemed ideal:

I started by adding the flower stamp.

Then I added stencilled flowers in pale colours - making sure that the stencil IS UP THE RIGHT WAY!!... or the stamped image won't fit over the top! (not going to lie - I found that out the hard way on another project lol)

Here are the stencilled flowers with the line image stamped over the top...

I used a black pen to colour the background - I found this easier/quicker than using paint - this isolates and defines the doodled flowers...

I stamped the flower image onto book text and added pieces of this to the page... I finished the page with some white and gold pen doodles..

Really happy with how the flower stamp and coordinating stencil work together... I think this is going to be used often!

Thanks for visiting

JoFY Bingo Wk.5

Welcome to Week FIVE of JoFY Bingo!! This weeks draw is a very wintery festive selection...

I like the sentiment 'be the rainbow in someone's grey cloud' (I even have a stamp of it - JOFY38)... and I was thinking about this week's stamps and how to use the stars.. and thought I'd mix that phrase up a bit...  what about 'be the stars in somone's dark sky'... I liked that and so created this journal spread...

LOTS of blue layers went in to creating the background - mostly Midnight, Baltic Blue, Inky Pool and a touch of Mermaid (why does everything look better with a touch of Mermaid! lol)

I printed the phrase out on my computer and laid it in place to check sizing etc, then removed it so I could add snowflakes/stars..

I used the snowflakes that looked most like stars from the background stamp on JOFY48 stamping them randomly onto the page (in Snowflake)

I painted a piece of Smoothy with Pearl Glaze, stamped on stars and cut them out.

All the pieces were stuck down and I painted details with Fresco and outlined the sentiment with pencils.. and outlined the page with a white gel pen line.

I don't often make dark background projects but I have to say I liked doing this!

Thats my project for this week - I hope you can get involved, here's what you need to know:

The numbers are drawn on Monday, along with a project I've made using the corresponding stamp sets, then the plan is to:
  • Use/combine 2 stamp sets (use only those stamp sets - not all the stamps in each set - that would be too much of an ask but as long as there are one or two stamps from each set then its OK!)
  • 7 days to create 1 project, makers choice:  cards... atc... journal page... dimensional project... tag...
  • Use any paints/media, colours, embellishments, stencils/masks
  • Load up your project to Instagram any time during the week.  Please use Instagram links #jofybingo and @jofyjo in the text (not 'tagging' me please) so I can find it :o)
If you don't have an Instagram account you can add your make in the comments on the Facebook post linked to this blog post (facebook links:  https://www.facebook.com/JoFY.JoFirthYoung/ or https://www.facebook.com/jo.firthyoung )

I hope you can join in - I look forward to seeing what you create!

A little bit of journalling does you good!

I've worked in my small Dylusions journal again - I think this might be my 'go to' journal now I've finished my junk journal (I should make another one of those)... and for this spread I worked on another painty spread (where I've cleaned off my paint brush, or used up left over paint from my desk - shame to see it go to waste!)

    It started like this:

I started adding some stamped letters (JOFY63) and little bubbles (JOFY45).. and the large flowers left over from other projects were something I planned to add to finish so kept laying them on and taking them off again to see how they looked on the background I was building... (flowers are from JOFY62 & JOFY64).

Next to be added were scribbles (JOFY60) and the stencil border from PS082 - this is a great border to use as whole or using single elements... its also a great border to use a base for doodles.

I used just the seedhead (without the stem, in green paint) from PS083 on each page - no need for the stem and it looks great and delicate in the background..

Here's the spread with the big flowers attached - all it needed to finish off was some white gel pen doodles - everything looks better with a bit of that, don't you think!

The finished spread (though now I'm wondering if it need a few diamantes/stickle spots)

This spread came together in a really relaxed way - didn't faff with it too much, which is unusual because I am a master faffer! lol

    Thanks for popping by

    JoFY Bingo Wk.4

This week's bingo draw has thrown another festive curve ball...
I planned a triptych for this week's bingo and started with 3 plain pieces of card (7.5x12.5cm) connected on the reverse with tape to keep them together while I worked on them.

I coloured the background with Distress Oxide inks (Picked Raspberry and Carved Pumpkin) (making sure each card had both colours) and splashed them with water to break up the background.

I stamped the swirly border from JOFY40 in Picked Raspberry and the words from JOFY31 in black Archival.

I spritzed the flower image from JOFY31 with water and stamped on each card - this removes some of the colour.

I dried the cards and created 'flowers' by stamping the circles (JOFY31) in Versamark and embossed them with white powder - I did this rather than stamping in white because sometimes the Distress Ink can bleed into wet layers.

I stamped a heart on each card using black Archival. I wanted to make more of a feature of the circle 'flowers' and so painted water inside the image to lift the colour.

To make them look more flowerlike I drew stalks and grasses using a white pen.

I wanted to have words on each card so used the block words on JM40 - once removed from the phrase they could be used in lots more situations...

The hearts were made more solid by colouring with a pencil, & I added hanging threads to each one.  Small hearts were punched from card and added (with 3d foam) to the big hearts to cover some of the stars making them less christmassy.

I separated the cards and attached them to a white backing panel - this makes them looks crisp and the colours really pop!

I really like working with Distress inks - especially the Distress Oxides - and a pink and orange colour scheme makes me happy!!

Now its your turn - I hope you can join in this week and if you can here's what you need to know!:
